Description A postdoctoral position is available IMMEDIATELY via NCIRE-The Veterans Health Research Institute, working for Dr. Lynn Pulliam, Professor of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco on NIH-sponsored grants. This position will be located at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Dr. Pulliam’s focus is on inflammation and how it effects cognitive impairment and cardiovascular disease especially in the setting of HIV infection. More recently, her focus is on how exosomes from immune-activated cells can influence these pathologies. This position requires expertise in HIV infection, neuroscience and/or exosomes. A Postdoctoral scholar is expected to work closely with Dr. Pulliam and other senior scientists in the lab to achieve the overall research goals of the laboratory. The Postdoctoral scholar must be able to work independently on a daily basis. This will include the planning and performance of experiments, and the accurate recording and analysis of data. This is an HIV immunology laboratory with a strong emphasis on monocyte/macrophage immunology and exosomes. Techniques will include isolation of exosomes, protein extraction and purification, RNA and miRNA arrays, monocyte and isolation, primary cell cultures, western blotting, transfection, PCR, ELISA, and related methods.
Requirements Essential functions for this position include:
• Design experimental protocols and perform experiments
• Analyze and summarize data
• Work with supervisor and her associates to review research progress and plan direction of work
• Prepare written summaries of research for presentation and publication, with assistance from Dr. Pulliam or other senior members of her research group
• Manuscript preparation for submission to journals
• Grant preparation
• Present talks at national and international meetings
• Database searches
• Computer skills, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets
• Strong oral and written skills
